BLACK DOG BLOOMS
A Maine flower farm rooted in passion, community, and beauty

Abby
Owner & Lead Designer
Hi, I’m Abby — owner, floral designer, and farmer behind Black Dog Blooms. I’ve always loved fresh flowers, seasonality, and the beauty of growing things. I grew up in Vermont, surrounded by the rhythms of farm life, which is where my love of being outdoors and working with my hands began. I moved to Maine in 2019, and after over a decade in healthcare — including six years as a nurse — I realized I needed a creative outlet and more time at home with my family.
Flowers became that outlet. What started as a small experiment quickly turned into a passion, and today, Black Dog Blooms has grown into a full flower farm and studio. Each year our fields evolve, and each season brings the most beautiful, specialty blooms. There’s something deeply satisfying about nurturing flowers from seed to bouquet, and nothing compares to the joy they bring to the people who receive them.
The inspiration behind Black Dog Blooms was my black lab, Maverick, who was my constant companion in the fields and the studio. He reminded me every day of the simple joy in being present with those you love. Now, you’ll usually find me designing in the floral shop or harvesting in the fields, often with our two young children and our dogs, Shelby and Arlo, close by.
THE INSPIRATION
The Black Dog
I grew up in Vermont, which is much like Maine in many ways. I moved to Maine in 2019. After working in healthcare for the last 12 years, and being a nurse for the last 6, I found myself getting more and more frustrated and needing a creative outlet. I also wanted to be home more with my family and animals.
Growing up I worked on a vegetable farm, and this is where my love for being outside and having my hands in the dirt started. Fast forward to working as a nurse and feeling a little overworked and unsatisfied. I started to dabble in “the flower thing”. I was hooked. I decided to dive into this adventure and have not looked back. Each year our farm grows and evolves and each year we have the MOST amazing flowers. It is so satisfying and there is so much beauty in flowers. I really love the joy that our specialty blooms bring to people.
The inspiration and motivation behind Black Dog Blooms was my black lab named Maverick. He was with me through many life stages and wanted nothing more than to be with his people. We lost him in the fall of 2021 at 11 years old. He was the best planting assistant and harvesting companion
You can usually find me designing in the floral shop or harvesting in the field. My spare time is usually spent wrangling our two young children, and our two dogs, Shelby and Arlo.

OUR FARM
Grown in Maine
Since 2020, we’ve been cultivating a wide variety of high-quality, lush blooms at our home farm in Sangerville, Maine. With the help of a greenhouse, row covers, and a lot of dedication, we’re able to extend the season and grow specialty flowers that truly stand out.
Alongside our farm, we operate a floral shop in Dexter, Maine, where you’ll find premium, distinctive blooms year-round, as well as carefully curated gift items. With the support of my husband, Devon, and our incredible team, we’ve built a small business that prioritizes nature, beauty, and thoughtful design for every client.
While our shop is open to the public, our home farm and greenhouses are not open to visitors at this time, as the majority of our growing happens at our private property. We are a working flower farm, focused on cultivating the best blooms possible.
